An “I Just Knew It” Story

Join Downtown Dogs and Dog’s Day Out in Supporting Spot’s Last Stop this Holiday Season

“I just knew it”, says Lindsey Heiserman. “That face staring back at me from the computer screen was my next dog. She had deep, inquisitive eyes and ears that stood straight up like antennas. Her name was Toula and she was in foster care through Spot’s Last Stop Canine Rescue (SLS). When we went to visit her, our connection was instant. We knew at that moment that we could provide Toula with her forever home.”

Lindsey, an SLS volunteer and rescue parent, shares that Toula had a rough time before coming to Minnesota. She was found as a stray—very sick and on the kill list many times at a shelter in Alabama. By a stroke of luck (and her loving personality) Toula was saved and transported to Minnesota through SLS. She’s one of more than 1,000 dogs SLS rescues every year from down South, where the incidence of animal neglect and abuse is particularly great.

Not long after welcoming Toula into her family in 2016, Lindsey met Ralph Bernstein, owner of Downtown Dogs and Dog’s Day Out. Lindsey shared, “Once again, I just knew it. Ralph and I totally hit it off—and we’ve been working together on personal training and life coaching ever since. Not surprisingly, we often talk about dogs during our training sessions. When Ralph told me about his support of animal welfare organizations through the businesses’ Change Unleashed!  initiative, we created a great partnership with SLS.”

This holiday season, Downtown Dogs and Dog’s Day Out are committed to helping SLS and more dogs like Toula—AND YOU CAN HELP TOO!

Donate $2, $5, $10 or an amount of your choice at check out and we’ll match the first $1000 donated between now and the end of the year.

We’re also collecting new and gently used items for SLS foster dogs in need! See details here: https://dogsdaympls.com/community/

You may be wondering, “Where’s Toula now?” We are thrilled to report that she’s living a great, healthy and happy life! She loves walks, cuddling, and her fur brother Peter—who thanks to SLS joined Lindsey’s family in 2019. Look here in December for Peter’s story.

We hope to see you and your pup this holiday season for daycare and boarding at Downtown Dogs and bathing and grooming at Dog’s Day Out!
